The Secret (Exposed)

This book was recommended to me by KeepCharmingAlwiz. I took only about 3 hours total to finish it. I don't read the physical version but downloaded the pdf version and read it from my handphone when there is nothing to do.

After finish reading it, I can only think about 1 word BULLSHIT

The main thesis according to the book being that the "secret" to anything in life, wealth, health, success, love, romance, happiness is positive thinking, thinking positive thoughts. More specifically, imagining things that you want to have and really, truly believe that you already have them, and feel good about having them now!

For example, if you want to be rich, you should first imagine that you are already rich; second, you should really believe that you are already rich; and third you should feel yourself in a rich life style, feel happy about it. If you keep doing this for awhile, miraculously the doors of wealth will open to you, all the opportunities will line up at your door and you will be well into your way to becoming that rich person you are imagining.

Similarly, if you want to loose weight, you should imagine yourself in your ideal weight, really focus on that, only allow yourself "thin thoughts" and avoid "fat thoughts", and you will get thin. I quote; "if someone is overweight, it came from thinking fat thoughts". Another one; "Food cannot cause you to put on weight, unless you think it can." Do you think we readers are small children?

"Make a command to the Universe. Let the Universe know what you want. The universe responds to your thoughts." Another one: "The Universe will start to rearrange itself to make it happen for you." Really? I didn't know the entire universe cared so much about me!

Like always finding a parking spot, never having to wait in lines, never being late etc. And a lot of people are, allegedly, already doing it: "We have received thousands of accounts of The Secret being used to bring about large sums of money and unexpected checks in the mail. People have used the secret to manifest their perfect homes, life partners, cars, jobs, and promotions, with many accounts of businesses being transformed within days of applying The Secret." Really want to laugh out loud!

One look at the titles of the co-authors of the book says a lot: Metaphysician, healer, life coach, law of attraction specialist, feng shui consultant (sure)...It even deliberately misuse the comments of great people of all time like Albert Einstein, Henry Ford etc just to boost the popularity of this book. Really disappointing!

Remember, there is no free lunch in this world!

Why is it important to defragment your hard disk?

Every time you use your computer, even when it's brand new, the files on your PC or laptop will continuously become fragmented. This means that these files are split into millions of pieces, and this occurs even more so when you go to add, modify and delete them. So when you go to access a file - even just to read it - it will take much longer than necessary because Windows has to first find each piece of the file before you can even see it.

This makes using your computer, and doing everything you want, much slower than it should be. Fragmentation also leads to much slower boot times and will make applications run slow or even potentially cause them to "lock-up" or freeze.

Defragging your computer puts the pieces of your files back together into a single piece - the way they should be. A defragmented computer will boot quicker, files will be accessed faster, and your applications will not hang. A good disk defragger will not only defragment, but will also consolidate the free space on your drives into one large piece so when you create a new file, there will be enough free space to save that file in a single piece, rather than fragmenting right away.

Defragmenting the old way..using windows disk defragmenter

For most users, the default disk defragmenter provided in Windows seems to be enough. The truth is it only defragment the drive up to a certain limit only. For power users such as those using their computers for gaming and high end editing, it is certainly insufficient.

There are currently only 2 commercial disk defragmenter available that is really good ie. Diskeeper and PerfectDisk. I have been using Diskeeper until last year when I decided to give PerfectDisk a try. PerfectDisk is currently my favourite and I'll write more about it in my next posting..

Booze Night at Voodoo

Last night went to my friend's birthday at Voodoo Pub & Bistro. It is a newly renovated pub located at Bandar Baru Medan, Ipoh ( nearby Zuellig Pharma and close to the highway). The last pub at Ipoh that I went was Mike's Place and this is more entertaining.

Atmosphere was quite nice with lots of music and performances.

Critical Appraisal Workshop at Taiping Golf Resort

Went to Taiping Golf Resort for the Critical Appraisal Workshop for 3 days last week.
We stayed at Jana View Condotel which is some sort of a hotel condominium combination. Room was quite big with beds, sofa, tv and a balcony.

Accommodation was nice but the food was terrible, some cost saving perhaps. Most meals was either curry chicken or fish, with no other choices. Imagine being served with only bread with nothing for supper on the first night!

Had our breakfast and meals at Golfer's Terrace. The view from this location is magnificent..only the food could be better

The workshop was held in this building on the left of the swimming pool. We had a photo session there.

Last Saturday when I was away for a course my pet hamster died. I have been keeping her for more than 2 years since I bought her from a pet shop. Few days before she died, she was passing out blood and did not eat. She was also very weak and shaking vigorously.

Texas Hold'em Poker at Genting

Just come back from Genting for a 2 day trip for Air Justin Live 2008 concert! (more on that later)
Still reeling from the lack of sleep though..

Well, there is a new game at Casino de Genting which is the well known Texas Hold'em Poker . Those of you who have been playing this before at Facebook will certainly know. I just read about it at the Genting website before this trip and planned to try it there.

After the Air Justin Live 2008 concluded, I went straight to the casino. Since the concert organiser has credited free RM20 into our Genting Worldcard to play the keno slot, what else to do at night!

After a frustrated half an hour playing those slot machines without winning any significant money, I then cashed out the balance. Then, I went to find the Texas Hold'em Poker tables.

From Monte Carlo through Circus Palace then Hollywood, i still could not find it. Then, wondered around aimlessly till finally found it to be hidden in a corner near the slot machines at Circus Palace. Since there were only 4 tables, it was very crowded and I just stand and watched the game. Then back to the hotel room because no place to sit and bet there after waiting for more than an hour.

The following morning after breakfast, went back again and the tables were closed! (kept swearing at that time) Play some other games first while waiting for it to open at 11am. Finally able to experience the excitement and it was really rewarding! Minimum RM100 is at stake on a RM25 minimum table! Should brought some Xanax since I could feel that my heart almost jumped out when I placed the bets.

There were some major differences between the Genting version and the Facebook version.

The others rules concerning the betting amount can be easily learned.

This is the most enjoyable card game i have ever played because unlike other games where you are depends entirely on your luck (baccarat, 3 pictures), it also depends on your skill as well. You can opt to fold or increase your bet etc..

The first impression the design gives, is that it resembles the one of a Prada phone. Same as with the Prada, the shiny plastic surface is a fingerprint magnet and you will have to clean your phone constantly, in order for it to look good. Luckily, there is a leather pouch supplied to protect your phone.

Back View- the battery is integrated into the back cover to reduce the thickness of the phone

Looks stylish and fits nice in your hand

The Answer/Reject call buttons, positioned below the display are in the classic black color and they are easy to use. The 5-way joystick use to navigate through the menus, are supplied, but in this case, it is positioned too low, as well as the other two buttons, which makes them hard to use while holding the phone in your hand.

The volume rocker and the slot for the charger/cable, covered with a protective cover are positioned on the left side. The power button, which is used to turn the display off, the microSD slot, the fast access button and the camera button are positioned on the right-hand side. Pressing the side buttons, except the camera one, can sometimes be a hard task. For example, it could be quite difficult if during a call you want to turn the sound down.

The stylus is in the lower left corner, as opposed to the right side corners, as in most phones. It is very inconvenient, since I have to turn the phone around in order to get the stylus. When pulling the stylus out, it stuck halfway and have to pull it hard to take it out. Then it extends (since it is telescopic), making it longer and more comfortable to use.

Unlike the Johor Mental Health Convention that I went few months back (please refer here), most of the delegates came from my hospital. There were none of my ex coursemates around this time. This convention was launched by our Sultan and accompanied by our beloved Perak Menteri Besar, Nizar (this was the first time I saw him in real person)

Note our Sultan (in the middle yellow chair) and our MB seated next to him. Our hospital director was giving the opening speech.

Since accommodation and breakfast was only provided to those coming from other states, I have no chance of doing a review about that. The convention hall inside Casuarina was quite small and it was a little cramped as almost all the seats was occupied by the delegates. There were also no bottles of drinking water provided to the delegates (some sort of cost saving?). The lunch was also typical Malay dishes and nothing special.

Performances at the dinner

The dinner was a halal Chinese fare and the food was surprisingly good. One of the organizing committee member told us that it costs RM 525 per table which is quite reasonable. It certainly beats the dinner I recently had at a top hotel nearby. Then, there were many entertaining and funny shows for us such as dance and singing performed by our hospital staff and charity society.

With the current oil price dropping to about USD 80 per barrel, why our petrol price is still so high?

When the oil price is USD 140 per barrel, we pay RM 2.70 per litre
Now oil price is USD 80 per barrel, lets do the math.. 2.7/140 x 80 = Rm 1.54 per litre!
How come we are still paying RM 2.45 per litre?
Looks like we are being robbed in broad daylight!

World in Conflict (Review)

World in Conflict is set in an alternate-history version of 1989. Instead of the Berlin Wall falling and communism collapsing, the Soviet Union launches an assault on Western Europe, and the United States rushes its forces in to aid its Western allies. Four months into the conflict, after the US Navy has been battered down, the USSR launches a surprise invasion in Seattle and pushes inland. In the 14 levels of single player campaign, you will play as the US faction trying to stop the advancement of USSR and some battles in Europe as well.

This isn't the standard RTS game, as World in Conflict doesn't follow the familiar model of resource gathering, base building, and swarming armies. Instead it almost feel like an action game in RTS form. This game is all about action. From the moment each level starts, you were straight away given objectives to capture and defend some strategic points in the map. Sometimes, you were given time limits to accomplish failing which you have to restart it all over.

Since there is no resource gathering, after each of your units die, resource point will slowly accumulate back to the original level where you can then choose which unit to deploy. In this case, you have to be smart enough to deploy the most critical unit to your survival since the deployment takes time.

There were basically 3 types of units which you can use throughout the game: infantry (anti-tank, sniper etc), vehicles ( tank, repair, anti-air etc) and air(choppers). Each has its own strength and weaknesses which perfectly complement each other. The game is also smart enough to limit the number of units you can control. Instead of commanding the entire battlefield, you'll have only a relative handful of units. This makes managing your units a lot easier.

The highlight feature of this game is the tactical aids. After you kill certain number of enemy units, your tactical aids point will increase which lets you to use some devastating weapons such as napalm strike, tank busters, artillery, carpet bombing and ultimately the nuke strike. It is wise to plan ahead before you deploy any tactical aids on the map because the deployment takes time. So, you have to predict and anticipate the movement of enemy units. If the enemy is hiding infantry in woods and buildings, making them hard to root out, call in napalm and just burn down the trees or use artillery or smart bombs to blow up the structures. Everything blows up so beautifully!

In term of graphics, it is the best looking RTS game I've ever played so far. Using my old PC, it really stretched it to the limits where in some heavy battles, my frame rates have been reduced to only a single digit. It renders the environment beautifully, from the billowing smoke, the explosion, the collapse of buildings to the sky reflection on the ocean. The game engine uses Havok physics and you can see the tanks burst into metal scraps beautifully and choppers swinging wildly before plunging down to destruction.

Great narrative

The excellent storytelling, which is spearheaded by pitch-perfect narrator Alec Baldwin. He's backed up by a great voice acting cast that brings the principle and secondary characters to life, along with a story that offers up emotional and sometimes humorous vignettes from a world at war. For instance, you'll hear a soldier's futile battle against Army bureaucracy, the phone conversation of a husband and wife, and the deliberations of the president and his top military advisors. The voice acting is top notch!

and ultimately the aftermath of a nuclear strike

Everything about this game is great, from the addicting gameplay to the amazing visuals. More importantly, World in Conflict offers up a refreshingly new approach to strategy gaming.

Four Season House @ Taman Pertanian Malaysia

Actually before we went to the Skytrex Adventure (please scroll down for the post), we took some time and have a quick tour around Taman Pertanian Malaysia.

Located in Shah Alam, Malaysia's first agriculture park was opened to the public since 1986. The 1,295 hectare of tropical rain forest and agriculture park is one of the largest in the world. Visitors come here to explore the many agricultural plants that are grown here. Paddy field is found here, so are cocoa trees, oil palm, rubber trees, coffee, coconut and other fruit trees.

There are many gardens in this park amongst which are the Spice Garden, Ornamental Garden, Orchid Garden, Cactus Garden, Bamboo Garden and Mushroom Garden. Bicycles are available for rent at the park while free bus service is provided to ferry visitors to various spots within the park.

Since our motive is Skytrex, we only visited the Four Season House and walked around the surrounding area.

The four season house at the Shah Alam Agriculture Park is one of the top attraction here. The entrance fee is RM3 per adult (12 years and above) and RM1 per child (4 to 11 years old). We took the coach provided by the park and ask the driver to drop us at the entrance to the four season house.

We thought the house got 4 seasons scenery inside at one go but only realized at the entrance that it occurs as follow:
Winter season garden is exhibited from December to February.
Spring season garden is exhibited from March to May.
Summer season garden is exhibited from June to August.
Autumn season garden is exhibited from September to November.

The temperature inside was 7-12° C and inside was a tube like tunnel where there was 3 entrance to the exhibition. It was interconnected and quite small. We only spend around 15 minutes there because it was quite small. Although the scenery was nice, it was spoilt by the lighting which I think is too yellowish. I have to manually adjust the photos' colour balance using ACDSee to get the most acceptable finishing.

Skytrex Adventures

Last weekend went to Taman Pertanian Malaysia at Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam, Shah Alam to participate in Skytrex Adventures. Skytrex Adventure have created an unusual high ropes adventure located in Shah Alam.

This brand new activity revitalises the park's long forgotten attraction as the Malaysia's first agricultural park (built 1986) and quite possibly the world's largest at 1290 hectares. This adventure will have you standing, climbing, walking, swinging and zipping as high as 22meters off the ground!

The entrance fee to Taman Pertanian Malaysia is RM3 and then we boarded a free bus ride to the Skytrex site. Before we proceed to the adventure, we were given a indemnity form to fill in our particulars and we have to agree to the term and conditions stated. One of the most important is the organiser will not be responsible for any injuries and death sustained by participants.. sounds scary huh?

There are a few challenges that's very hard to complete and I just glide through using the ropes.
I only took a few photos on top of the trees because it is difficult to hold a camera with the equipment in such a high place. And my previous incident with my camera also remind me to be careful with it.

How to Install Creative Sound Card

Steps

Before starting, uninstall the default audio driver in your PC, it should be Realtek if you are using motherboard sound card.
After that depending on your motherboard manufacturer, go to the BIOS (press DEL when your PC boot up) and deactivate the sound hardware. Please read your motherboard's manual.
Touch the computer case to remove static electricity before continuing.
Power down PC and remove the AC power cord.
Open the computer case.
Locate the PCI slot in your motherboard. It is used to connect the old 56k dial-up internal modem. It is usually on the bottom left hand corner. Some may have more than 2 slots, use either 1. (refer to diagram)

See my new Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card at the bottom left hand corner of my PC. Above it is my Nvidia Geforce 7600GT graphic card.

Insert the new Creative sound card to the PCI slot as shown above

Remove the 56k modem (if any) from the PCI slot on the motherboard by pulling it straight out and unscrewing it.
It may be easier to rock the card back and forth a little to pry it loose. Use caution when removing so you don't damage the motherboard.
Insert the new sound card in the same slot. Make sure it connects at the right connector. Use some pressure to slot in the card but do not damage the motherboard.
Snugly, screw the sound card to the computer frame, but do not over tighten.
Connect the speakers and all other peripheral cables to the appropriate slot depending on your speaker setup.
Close the computer case.
Plug your computer in and power it up. Your computer should recognize the new card.
The Windows will ask whether you want to obtain the suitable drivers. Click Cancel.
Insert the provided driver CD. The new driver should install from it. Restart when it prompts.

Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer (Review)

Finally got myself a sound card. What? Isn't most motherboard already has an integrated sound card? Well, yes of course.

According to Wikipedia. A sound card (also known as an audio card) is a computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to/from a computer under control of computer programs. Typical uses of sound cards include providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as music composition, editing video or audio, presentation/education, and entertainment (games). Many computers have sound capabilities built in, while others require additional expansion cards to provide for audio capability.

An on board sound card only provide the basic sound quality for normal day to day usage while a dedicated expansion sound card provide a fully enriching and customizable sound output to those who demand more.

There is no competition in the sound card industry and the only reputable brand which produce excellent sound card is Creative Technology. Bought this Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer at Low Yat for RM 340. Saw the same product at PC DEPOT but the selling price is RM 450! Such a huge difference. That's why it is not advisable to buy computer hardware at Ipoh unless it is really urgent.

Now, lets analyze the product itself..

Sporting a black PCB, it does look cool and steady. This sound card has been in the market for more than a year and the reason I bought it was because the price has dropped drastically since then. There is a Fatal1ty version of this card pumping full of steroids but the price is more than triple.

How about the software provided?

The Creative Audio console lets you tweak the settings and is the place to select between the major modes, Entertainment, Game and Audio Creation, supported by the card. In Windows XP there is a task bar icon and a quick way of selecting between the modes.

Game mode for extreme gaming, what else?

The X-Fi Crystalizer is a hardware up-sampling engine that converts the audio into a 24-bit stream that claims to improve the fidelity. It makes the sound crispier and u can slide it to ur own preference.

CMSS-3D is an audio expanding engine that separates stereo or simple multichannel audio into more virtual channels, so if you have basic headphones, a set of stereo speakers or anything up to 5.1 audio, you can experience a virtual 7.1 surround. Since I have only a 2.1 speaker system, it does make some difference but not that fully surround.

In addition there's also Smart Volume Management, or SVM, that monitor the dynamic range of the audio and adjusts the sound volume accordingly, this way you won't get huge differences between massive explosions and quiet whispers in movies for example.

Thumbs up
Definitely sounds better than on board sound with much tweaking as desired. Supports EAX which is the gold standard in gaming

To me, the software provided is quite confusing as the console it is not easily accessible. The installation is also quite slow.

Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer is a very capable card for entertainment, gaming and audio creation. Some people would argue that on-board sound does the job just fine but the sound quality of the XtremeGamer is just head and shoulders over anything on-board.

Think most people do not know where or how they install the sound card. I'll make it into the next posting.

Next on my grocery list.. A 5.1 speaker system!

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is the upcoming sequel to F.E.A.R. in development by Monolith Productions.

The sequel to F.E.A.R. continues the supernatural suspense story of a powerful psychic child named Alma, whose rage against those who wronged her caused her to begin an escalating paranormal crisis that threatens to devour and replace reality with her own. Instead of playing as the Point Man, the game's protagonist is Michael Becket, a Delta Force operator whose squad is sent in to arrest Genevieve Aristide approximately thirty minutes before the ending of F.E.A.R. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3

How to Download Youtube Video

(This is a post containing further explanation for KeepCharmingAlwiz and others who may find it useful)

There are many many methods of downloading video from youtube. One of the ways that I found quite easy and useful is by using Youtube Downloader.

This is a simple freeware application that works very well, given how basic the interface is.
Just go to the youtube and play any video that you like, then copy the address from the web address bar above. Then, open this little application and it will automatically paste it for you when u click the dialog box.

Then, there are 2 options:

to download FLV files from YouTube, or
to convert them to most major file formats which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid

From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. Surprisingly, there's also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.

Google Chrome

The battle for Internet domination has reached new heights with the launching of Chrome by Google. Thanks to Jayce for the breaking news. Chrome was still in beta so expect some minor problems before the final version is out. Chrome is based on the open-source project Webkit, the same rendering engine used by Apple's Safari.

Market share of the top browsers

Chrome has taken the minimalist approach with the browser design. There are 2 words to describe Chrome "Slick and simple". It put tabs on top of the browser itself thus saving much space and enables a larger viewing area. Moreover, the tabs are detachable from the top and can be dragged out to form a new window itself. New tab pages display your nine most visited Web pages, as well as the searches you perform most, and your most recent bookmarks. This advancement benefit is that if 1 of the tab freezes, u can terminate the tab itself without restarting Chrome. Neat!

Chrome has a Omnibox address bar, sort of the awesome bar from Firefox. It searches the web as u type as well as the history and bookmarks. This means there is no search box in Chrome as u already has the hybrid bar. In addition, the root address of the webpage that you visit is being stressed bold in the Omnibox to notify you if u have accidentally visited harmful sites.

There is also an incognito mode whereby u can search the web without leaving any trace in the history. A good feature for those who surfs at other people's PC or porn lovers at work.

The most striking feature is the speed of course. Google claims that it is faster than the current IE and Firefox. But separate study by Firefox and IE8 beta yield different results.

Higher means faster

For general surfing, I did not encountered problems but there was a nagging problem with blogspot when I tried to copy the images in my draft blog but failed. Some ads also did not rendered correctly as it was in my blog. As it is still in beta, this is expected. There is also a drawback with Chrome where u can't recover back the tabs if it is closed unexpectedly.

If you are addicted to web application and want to try out cool things, this is what most people are waiting for now. It seems Google has everything to compete with Microsoft now. It is only a matter of time before Google launches its own operating system.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

Mobile number portability (MNP) is the freedom to move from one mobile operator to another within the same market, while retaining your mobile number. It allows the customer to change his/her mobile service provider without losing his/her mobile number.

MNP is a government directive and regulatory requirement. There will be a Limited Live Trial from 29 August, to early October 2008. MNP will officially be launched in Malaysia from early October 2008 onwards.

The maximum that a mobile service provider can charge for a port is RM25 but the fees might vary downwards from one service provider to another. These fees will cover the administrative charges, issuance of your new SIM card and all other costs in relation to your port.

Some may said the main beneficiary of this new regulation will be Digi. But, I am sure the other telcos will be offering more attractive and economical packages to customers from now on. That's the benefit of opening the monopoly of telco services. For me, I just signed up for the Maxis Postpaid 2 months ago. I will adopt a wait and see approach first before decide to change mobile service provider.

Last Sunday I went to the Stadium Indera Mulia for the first of its kind event in Ipoh, the Full Throttle Autoshow featuring drifting competition, exhibition of modified race cars and the sexy full throttle angels!

The ticket to this event costs RM15 and it was free for children below certain age (cant remember)

Let us begin the journey to the world of auto showdown! The entrance to the stadium are lined up by these super masterpieces.

The atmosphere in the stadium itself was quite surprising as there were not much cars to display. Instead, there were many booths selling car accessories like engine oil, performance tyres, bodykits etc.

Crysis Warhead is a stand-alone follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed Crysis

It's the first game to be developed by Crytek's Budapest studio, and it will be built on a new version of the German developer's graphically groundbreaking CryEngine 2.

Crysis Warhead puts players into the nanosuit of Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes, who deployed to a different side of the island than the original game's protagonist. Psycho apparently arrived on the island better equipped, given that he will have access to an expanded array of customizable weapons and vehicles.

Warhead is set to launch in North America on September 16, preceded by a European release on September 12. Cant wait for it to come!

The latest version of the ever popular Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) is available now. DAP has been around for many years and helps to accelerate the snail download speed since the dial-up internet days.

Increased download speeds are the program's bread and butter, speeding up downloads by almost 200 percent in most cases! (its true but depends on the server and location of the hosting site). Besides splitting files into smaller pieces, it automatically seeks faster mirrors. It also can get a file simultaneously from several sites, which is useful if a particular site limits the download speed.

During installation, Download Accelerator Plus will ask for your e-mail address in hopes of sending you special offers, but you don't actually need to submit any information. Its the fruit season again! This time I went back to my friend's hometown in Beruas. Beruas is a small town in Perak (about 45 km, or about 1 hour drive from Ipoh). It is situated near to Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan town.

Finally, my 1st full review of a pc game. This game has took me almost 1 full month to finish. It consists of 24 levels ( a bonus nowadays ) with more than 12 hours of single player campaign. I will only review the single player part only btw..

First, the whole storyline is an incoherent junk. There is an evil professor called Krone who develops a time-traveling suit. Due to his evil nature, he uses this technology to create an alternate reality where he rules this world. Its time for u to stop him before its too late. Hmm..sounds familiar..yawn...

The story is not the main attraction of the game but the main point is the ability of the player to manipulate time to his advantage. In theory, u can slow, pause and reverse time in this game. Well, only if it existed in real world. Back to the game..

Time slowing ability

Its pretty fun to use time to slow down the action and then take down ur opponents one by one. How about stopping time completely then run towards ur enemy and give him a full blast of a shotgun to his head. And, interestingly u can use time reverse to go back a few moments earlier when u found yourself being thrown a grenade. Sometimes, it feels dirt easy as this is considered a cheat by itself. Nonetheless, this ideal situations has its limitations as this ability needs to recharge itself after every usage. U cant make it alive out of some fight scenes without this time shifting ability as swarms of enemy is after u most of the time.

Special rain effects

The graphics of this game is not amazing but with very nice visual effects if u do not compare with Crysis side by side of course. The 1st level is particularly great as the rain effect is top notch whereby u can feel the droplets of rain slowly moving down ur screen. The animations are great but sometimes u feel the ragdoll physics are overly done. The audio is quite good with decent sound acting and various ambient music to suit particular levels

Blood, gore and limbs flying everywhere! ( a pc shooter must have )

Boring doors upon doors

The weapons are interesting especially the crossbow and the surge gun. U will definitely get a satisfying shot with each weapon. The enemies are varied with some donning the same suit as u. So, u have to use ur time ability to catch up with them. Most enemies AI is not that sophisticated and they will just shoot at u without hiding in cover.

Some vehicular action

Well, as u may imagine, where this game can go wrong as it is full of potential albeit poor storyline ( most games are anyway ). This is a pure linear shooter. To summarize it, u just go from point A to point B and shooting bad guys in between. There is no point C or D where u can take alternate routes to achieve the same outcome. An old classic pc shooter! There are no real puzzles to stimulate ur mind to think differently with ur powers. U just need to either use slow, stop or reverse to pull some switches in order to open a blockade to continue ur missions. Think Half Life and it is a shame!

Our final day was the 4th Psychopharmacology Seminar at Persada Johor International Convention Centre. It was only about 15mins drive from Hyatt Regency.

The Convention Centre complex sits on a 2.43 ha (6 acres) site with a built-up area of 1.69 ha (4.2 acres) and 29 function rooms totalling 8,296 sq. metres (89,292 sq.ft.) There is also provision for a total of 9 retail shops and food & beverage outlets. The remaining land area features a multi-level parking complex accommodating 1,600 car-park spaces and 80 bus bays.

The architectural concept for the Persada Johor International Convention Centre draws its inspiration from historical elements of Johor and incorporates modern features so as to exude a sense of strength and integrity without compromising on functionality. It is designed to fill the critical need for an international standard Exhibition and Convention Centre in Johor and to advance Johor's progress into the 21st century.

The seminar was quite similar to the convention earlier but this is only for the pharmacists and most of the speakers are specialists from Hospital Permai. I just could not wait for it to end!

After the seminar, we had a quick buffet lunch at the nearby Puteri Pacific Hotel (connected to the Persada by a short skybridge) before we finally went back.

10th Mental Health Convention at Hyatt Regency ( Part 2)

Well, it was quite an agonizing trip going to Johor as I had to travel there by express bus. There are 3 of us ie me, my female colleague and KSN (not ketua setiausaha negara btw) and it totally took us more than 7 hours of journey. When we reached the Larkin bus station, we boarded a taxi to Hyatt Regency. It was just a short trip about 10minutes that costs us RM 12.

At the reception there, it was quite a mess as people of different sexes are put into the same room. And i was among the unlucky ones, but since the other person (female) not yet arrived, I went into my room and put my things down. Then I went to find the organizer and we sorted out the room issue. Finally, I was alone in 1 room and I welcome my former coursemate HKH to join me. Its nice to meet some of my former coursemates that I havent met since convo.

Our convention was held in a big ballroom. The atmosphere was very spacious with 3 projectors beaming onto 3 white boards to enable those who sits in the left and right corner to have a better view. But the chairs makes it hard to those who would like to take notes as it was quite uncomfortable.

This is an exception as sitting too front is not my usual self ha..

The attendance becomes fewer and fewer as time goes by..

We have Malam Mesra on the 1st night of convention that was held in the same ballroom. The food was quite fair as it was halal type of chinese dinner btw..Then there was the performance from the staff from Hospital Permai and karaoke singing from the audience. Thumbs down!

The room has a panoramic view of the Johor Bahru skyline. It is quite spacious and comes with plush linens and duvets, marble bath and work desk. Deluxe amenities include Internet access, soft bathrobes, 24-hour room service and daily newspaper delivered to your door. This room costs RM355 for a night stay during weekdays.

Nothing much to complain except there is only a 21inch old CRT television which is enclosed in a cabinet. I have to strain my eyes when watching it from my bed. Then, there is only given 3 modes for controlling the air-cond temperature which is hi, med and low..pretty outdated nowadays.

Cooliris Previews

This add-on has been for a long time. Remember PicLens? Its from the same developer. Well, to summarize it, this add-on lets u to preview any website from any links by just hovering ur mouse pointer on the icon beside the link itself.

Sounds cool? A blessing for those who just want a quick preview and do not want to open many tabs at once. Well, the only drawback is like opening a new tab, u have to wait for the preview windows to load up the contents.

Quite unfortunately, the "stacking" feature is not working on Firefox 3. "Stack" is the only feature that makes it outstanding because u do not have to bookmark any pages, just "stack" it on the right side of the screen. Hope the coming updates will rectifies it!

Its time for another mobile game review.
Well, I admit that I watched the movie simply because it has Angelina Jolie in it. For those of u who have seen it, u'll know what I mean hehe...

Some of this gameloft mobile game features:

Well, it has some very good graphics and the levels are quite interesting. There are many giant beasts to slay but the low level enemies are almost the same and gets quite repetitive. The last level is a bit too cumbersome as it took me more than 20minutes to kill the dragon boss.

Thanks to our lousy streamyx, most of the time u have to wait for it to stream before u can view it.

This is a great tool, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox. A small percentage of websites do not support Firefox which u can easily revert to IE by just clicking the small icon at your bottom right corner of Firefox after u install this add-on. The only website i encountered which does not render correctly in Firefox is btchina.com which is a torrent site. It can be downloaded here

Gadwin PrintScreen

Think most of u knows how to capture a screenshot of your computer.
Well, let me explains the default process of doing this:
1. Press Print Screen on ur keyboard.
2. Open any image editing software i.e. ACDSee, Photoshop, (For Windows its Paint)
3. Click edit and paste it.
4. Finally, save it into your desired destination.

There is a freeware to simplify the processes above. Its Gadwin Printscreen. Just press the Print Screen button or any button u choose, then it will pops up and lets u save or resize it to ur wishes.

Well, the most interesting features is the timestamp. U can choose ur own words on it.
The Good: Its Free, (who does not want free things, anyway) , simple to use

The Bad: U have to make it to sits on the system tray on the bottom right of ur screen. It will clutter up the space for those who installs many applications

Ad-Aware 2008

The latest version of this antispyware from Lavasoft is out now. Ad-Aware 2008 promises an improved threat detection, enhanced rootkit removal system and faster updates.

This version is an improvement from the 2007 version which contains lots of bugs. Most of the times I cant even download the latest signatures updates from its server.

When I install the 2008 version, it simply cant proceed because the 2007 version was detected as not even installed in my machine when I tried to remove it through Add/Remove Program.

I have to manually killing its process in the Task Manager before resorting to deleting the whole folder to get a clean and complete uninstallation.
Few years back, it is the only free and reliable antispyware available. Now, there are many alternatives of free antispyware available that I will review in the future.

Besides the antivirus integration, other features disabled in the free version include the real-time Ad-Watch guard, heuristics scanning, the scheduler, and plug-ins. What a dummy! At the moment, I have not yet found the ways to get the full paid version. Maybe later. I would only recommend it as a secondary detection engine to complement my Bitdefender Total Security 2008 which I will discuss later.

So far, I have not encountered any problems with the latest version. It has 6 skins to choose from and simple to use due to probably many of its paid features are disabled sigh...

Its not the movie that I want to talk about. Its the game. Well, the mobile game. I just finished playing it yesterday. The Die Hard 4 movie was totally bad-ass I supposed.

McClane is back! Now on your phone..

Since I also dunno when, probably since last year, I have been drawn to those java games on handphone. It reminds me of 90's hack and slash 2D games. Armed with my antiqued 3 year-old Samsung E720c, I find myself whipping out my phone to play those java games whenever there's some free time to spare.
Traditionally I have been more interested to those high end PC gaming, but since I spend my time less and less at home nowadays, I have to find something to cure my boredom.

To those of u still using Internet Explorer for your default browser, its time to change. The latest version of Firefox has finally convince me to migrate to the Mozilla family. It has been available for download since 18th June 2008. And I am among the first few millions to download it from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/#feature-vsie although the website is flooded by extra high traffics on that day.

The biggest advantages of using Firefox 3 is its superior speed and performance. Compared to its competitor which is the latest IE7, it loads up pages superbly fast including those media rich sites.
Its also less prone to crashes as well. Whats more striking is if you unexpectedly close it, it will prompt u whether you want to restore it to the previous session teh next time you open it.
The new additional functionality is the awesome bar. You can quickly find those websites that you have been in a split second. It customises based on your surfing experience. Now, you can also add a website to your favorites in just a single click.
